Rock Townsend Architects has evolved over its 50-year history and, since 2012, has built an exciting portfolio of work across its commercial, education, and residential sectors.
Rock Townsend, an RIBA Chartered Practice, is ISO 9001 accredited for its established Quality Management System (QMS). This captures clear lines of leadership, process, and communication for each project.
Our approach to each project and each design brief is to understand our clients broader underlying goals and business plan, ensuring we explore all options to create 'added value' wherever possible. We interrogate the brief, challenge assumptions, and clarify assumptions in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for the project.
As an accredited 1SO 14001 business, in 2021 we began measuring our scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions and have implemented a plan to reduce emissions year on year. Since January 2023, through a portfolio of carbon capture credits,
Rock Townsend is now operating as a carbon-neutral business. We are signatories to Architect’s Declare, and through continued learning, we are growing and sharing knowledge to ensure our design practices align with the RIBA’s 2030 Climate Challenge.
We have a long-established programme of supporting our staff through the early part of their careers as well as ongoing supplementary support to explore specialism and additional knowledge and skills. As a business, we are committed to our EDI policy recognising that there is always continued improvement needed.
Our team of architects, designers, and technicians is passionate about design and the wider built environment, and through workshops and design reviews, individual effort becomes a collaboration of ideas, skills, and experience. We like to extend this approach to the other disciplines we work with, as well as our clients, so that the process is as enjoyable and successful as the outcomes.
Architectural Design Services
Architecture & Interior Design
We provide architectural design services through all stages of a project, from strategic evaluation and brief writing to concept design and planning submission, and from technical design and building control submission to construction support and post-occupancy evaluation.
Design Guardian & Technical Adviser
Through our role as Design Guardian, we provide client-side support, assisting clients in ensuring the design that was commissioned is the design that is delivered.
Our Technical Advisor role also provides client-side support, assisting clients in ensuring robust, technically sound delivery through the construction stages of a project.
Principal Designer CDM & BR (BSA)
We also offer Principal Designer services for CDM (Construction, Design, and Management)2015 regulations relating to the Health and Safety of the design works and, separately, Principal Designer services for Building Regulations, reflecting recent changes brought about by the Building Safety Act 2022 and 2023 amendments to the Building Regulations.
How to work with us
We recognise that the procurement of our design services for public bodies is governed by rules and regulations and can appear difficult. We have therefore established ourselves on a number of open frameworks suitable for local authorities, charitable bodies, and housing association appointments. These frameworks have assessed our services and quality and ensure that we are working according to best practices and within the current legal framework.
Get in touch, and we can talk through the process. We would also be pleased to discuss alternate routes to working with you.
