Planning granted on Clapham Block A

We are extremely pleased that planning consent has been granted for South Bank College’s new Gateway building at its Clapham campus.

Rock Townsend’s multidisciplinary team, working closely with the client, secured approval from RIBA Stage 1 within seven months for the 5,500 m² scheme. The project includes a four-storey extension alongside the refurbishment of the existing Henry Thornton Building.

The development will deliver a new Gateway provision, offering a mix of specialist and general learning spaces designed to help young people and adults build confidence and develop skills for progression into further education, apprenticeships, and employment.

The scheme supports South Bank College’s sustainability goals by targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and minimising embodied carbon through the reuse of the existing structure, complemented by an efficient 3,000 m² extension.
