Venator HQ, Stockton-Upon-Tees
Rock Townsend was commissioned by Venator Corporation to refurbish their headquarters in Wynyard, Stockton-on-Tees. Through extensive collaboration with the corporation, we developed a comprehensive global interior design strategy and reimagined various key spaces. The refurbishment encompasses the Reception area, café, executive suites, and versatile social and collaborative workspaces.
Above. Proposed Ground Floor Layout; Above right. Look + Feel Materials Palette. The initial phase, ‘Setting the Foundation for Excellence’, focuses on critical areas of the ground floor, excluding the east wing. Key spaces such as the boardroom and control room have been reimagined to serve as a hub for strategic operations and decision-making. Enhancements to wayfinding and approach ensure seamless navigation, supported by high-quality signage and outdoor access that welcomes staff and visitors with clarity and elegance.
In the second phase, ‘Elevating the Experience’, the entire third floor is to be transformed to align with our vision of excellence. This space will exemplify modernity and innovation, setting a benchmark for functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The new Titanium House must embody our mission of being the "world’s best pigments and additives business" while reflecting our brand promise. This requires creating an environment that:
Leaves a lasting impression on customers, potential associates, and shareholders.
Clearly communicates our commitment to transformation and growth.
Represents a workplace that inspires and empowers associates to excel.
Has a "Wow" factor that would stand out even in iconic locations like New York City.
Balances premium quality with sophistication, steering clear of gimmickry.
Leverages natural light and open design to fully embrace the surrounding landscape.
Functionality redefined. To meet these goals, the building’s functionality will prioritise the following features:
Welcoming and Secure. A prominent reception area to greet visitors, facilitate inductions, and showcase our identity. Enhanced security measures that instill confidence and ensure safety for people and belongings.
Showcasing Excellence. Dedicated spaces to highlight our achievements and the brilliance of our team. Technology-integrated areas for impactful presentations and interactive displays.
Versatile Meeting Spaces. A mix of formal and informal meeting areas, with options for both booked and casual interactions. A large, adaptable space to host town hall briefings for up to 100 associates.
Community and Comfort. A vibrant café with outdoor seating for approximately 100 people, encouraging interaction and relaxation. Centralized amenity hubs offering premium breakfast stations, proper tea and coffee, and soft drinks — no vending machines.
Seamless Integration. Discreet placement of utility areas for printers, recycling bins, and other necessities.
Cutting-edge yet user-friendly technology that complements the building’s design.
Wellbeing and Sustainability. Design elements to enhance associate wellbeing, such as improved natural lighting, optimal temperature control, and strategic greenery - provisions for electric vehicle charging and a concealed smoking shelter; -high-quality toilet and shower facilities that cater to comfort and convenience.
This project offers a blank canvas, as little of the existing ground floor arrangement needs to be retained. Every element of the design reflects the clients aspirations and standards, delivering an environment that is inspiring, functional and aligned with their vision of excellence.
