Lincolns Inn Fields, Holborn

Lincoln’s Inn Fields is a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in the heart of Holborn. Originally built around 1755, the property features a four-storey layout with a façade rebuilt in the early 19th century. The exterior showcases Flemish bond yellow bricks with rusticated stucco on the ground floor, while the interiors retain exquisite period details, including original fireplaces and wooden panelling.

Rock Townsend was commissioned to refurbish and reconfigure the property, transforming it into a mixed-use space that combines modern living accommodation with office facilities. The project involved a multidisciplinary approach, with Rock Townsend providing MEP and fire engineering services, while Studio Shelley delivered specialist interior design. The fast-track retrofit was executed in close collaboration with the client, ensuring every detail—from furniture and fittings to accessories and appliances—was carefully selected to create a cohesive and personalized home.

The team worked closely with Camden Planning and the local Conservation Officer to develop a retrofit strategy that respected and enhanced the building’s historic features. The design introduced a reimagined layout with contemporary finishes and custom joinery, balancing modern functionality with heritage preservation.

The result is a thoughtfully revitalized property that celebrates its layered history while meeting the needs of modern living. Delivered within a modest budget, the project restores the building’s original character and integrates a harmonious blend of residential and office spaces in Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
