Gaming & Digital Hub, HSDC Alton College

Alton, Hampshire

The new facilities will house students undertaking their Level 2 and Level 3 Creative Media Production and T Level Digital : IT Production, Design & Development courses.  Housed within the 1990’s Steven’s Building at HSDC Alton Campus, the design sees the conversion of the current staff and admin spaces into the Gaming and Digital Hub in an open plan layout.

The College was looking for a forward-thinking approach to teaching and learning within the digital hub. The design incorporates a variety of spaces partitioned with PVC curtains, allowing for the rooms to be used as individual classrooms or opened up into large open spaces as required. Tailored acoustic design supports this flexibility of use, ensuring the workspaces operate well both as individual units and larger group spaces.   In total there are up to 10 classrooms and collaborative spaces, featuring 48 high-end PCs alongside 64 Dell Alienware gaming PCs inn environment that aims reflect real-life workspaces of people working in digital industries.

The design and implementation need to respond to a tight funding programme as the project was co-funded by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). Filled with bold colours and the creative use of lighting, the competed scheme delivers an inspiring environment for the students and a user-friendly workspace for staff.

The Gaming & Creative Digital Studios have allowed students to work and learn in a professional industry-standard space. This facility will allow them to prepare for their careers in the exciting gaming and creative digital sector. The design, layout and high-end facilities will support digital skills development and collaborative working.
