St. Michael's School

Enfield

Rock Townsend worked to develop a phased expansion of the existing primary school buildings into a two form entry school for Reception through to Key Stage 2.

Phase 1 saw the construction of the new buildings to facilitate the decant from the existing buildings.  Phase 2 saw the stitching  together of the new and old school with the construction of the new dining, library, ICT and other classrooms.  Finally Phase 3, the refurbishment of the existing buildings, was completed during the school holiday.

In addition to the extra accommodation, the design focus was on ensuring the new layout ready and operated in a cohesive manner, bought natural light and ventilation into the classrooms and circulation, encouraging social interaction within year groups, and from outside, sought to improve the schools presence on Lavender Hill.
