Working in partnership with two other practices the commission was to deliver a comprehensive redesign of an earlier consent in a very short period of time. Consisting 454 new homes (165 homes for sale, 184 shared ownership homes, 104 for affordable rent), 10,000m2 of office space, 9 artists units, a café, a doctors surgery and retail units the planning and working drawings was twin tracked to minimise the time spent between planning and getting on site. This strategy shortened the programme by 5 months and saved significant interest costs.
Centred around a new public open space the proposed scheme took a former factory site and integrated it back into the surrounding residential neighbourhood. Our share of the work included the refurbishment and conversion of one of the two original Prestolite factory buildings into apartments, two new residential buildings either side and a terrace of houses which were required to complement and complete the existing street scene.
