Garden Avenue represent the first new 'council housing' for the borough in many years. With an extensive stock of larger family houses in the borough Garden Avenue is an opportunity to deliver 22 new one and two bedroom apartments that will help meet the unprecedented demand for affordable housing.
Forming part of a package of former garage sites, Garden Avenue is set within an established residential area and with houses and garden backing on to the site the design needed to consider privacy and adjacencies.
Organised around a courtyard the scheme looks inward and away from the neighbouring properties with a communal secure garden serving as the approach to the individual stair cores. Ground floor apartments on the approach road and near the parking address the 'street' to establish a mews typology ensuring all elevation remain active and the informal pedestrian through routes become formalised and safe with good natural surveillance and quality landscaping.
The scheme is due to start on site in Spring of 2016.
