Becontree Community Centre

Becontree, Dagenham

Rock Townsend were asked to look at the opportunities for this site in Becontree to provide a permanent home for a number of activities currently run from various temporary locations.

The existing site is currently occupied by a warehouse building.  The proposal is to demolish the warehouse and construct a new Community Centre comprising a classrooms, activity space, meeting rooms and café space.  Typical activities will include parent & toddler groups, antenatal sessions, craft activities, sports, choirs, conversation classes, personal development programmes and one-to-one mentoring.

The new Community Centre will also be a place for research and project incubation into ways of tackling  the root causes of poverty, mental & physical health and isolation.  Work will be done with young people and families to assist with parenting & relationship support, personal development & life skills.
